Putney Common News

No not about the Common. Just a short note to say that the newsagents Putney Common News at 203 Lower Richmond Road is closing tomorrow. They'll carry on doing paper deliveries but after 38 years the owner has decided it's enough. Apparantly nobody wanted to buy the business. Another nail in the coffin for independent shops in Putney. They will be missed

Mr and Mrs Prashar will be much missed. They have been unfailingly helpful and a useful stop-gap for all those things you run out of at short notice. Open early for my daily newspaper, just a short walk from where I live in Commondale I will now have to go further along the road. But at 80+ I can understand how after almost 40 years of being an essential part of this community it is time to take a break. But as Mr Prashar says himself he has no other hobbies and apart from his family his business has been his life. But he will continue to supply newspapers to all his regular customers, and go on living above the shop. May he and his wfe have a long and happy semi-retirement.It seems the new user of the shop will be a florist of some sort. I’m not sure of the details.Nick

"It seems the new user of the shop will be a florist of some sort."Perhaps it could be called "Putney Common Flowers"?Hmmm, that gives me a business idea.

A really lovely couple.

They were a lovely couple & so helpful. Their shop was the epitome of the corner shop always kind & did many favours for the neighbourhood.  They deserve their retirement but will be a great loss to the community.

We have know the Prashars since they started this shop. Unfailingly kind and reliable, they will be much missed.

Sadly they have now also ended the newspaper delivery service as well. A happy retirement to them both
