Putney Bridge tube station

Does anyone else agree this station urgently needs a refurb? It seems to have been in poor condition for such a long time. It reflects badly on our local community and creates a poor impression of the UK for the many visits passing through. How can we have something done about this? Any ideas if you agree it's necessary?

Putin apologist Farage.

Farage fans apart, what’s that cobblers going to do for his cause? (Whatever that is apart from causing trouble 🤣)

Just read on next door site

3 Irish con men making out they are gardeners, going round the houses again. Beware, meant to be aggressive and expect large amounts of money for a few hours work.

Politicians have always lied – it’s the quality that’s declined

Extracts of an article in the Telegraph. Absolutely brilliant article! Because it is behind a paywall, I am copy-pasting a small number of paragraphs.David Dimbleby: ‘Politicians have always lied – it’s the quality that’s declined’The 85-year-old presenter on royal spin doctors, election-night blunders and the reason we have so few good MPs"....And then there is the calibre of today’s politicians. “For all sorts of reasons there has been a gradual decline in the quality of senior politicians. The upsets of the last five years – the effect of Covid, the 2008 crash, Liz Truss, the Tory party choosing its leaders with 85,000 members deciding who will be Prime Minister – they all have created a world where a lot of people just won’t touch politics, won’t go near it.” Do politicians today lie more than they did at earlier stages in his career? “No. I think they have always lied – though they do get more honest and let their guard down after 10pm on election night when the ballots have been cast and they can call a result a car crash. The word lie is rather too serious a word to use. They try to get you to see the world their way and for that they distort the truth.”Is that what Boris Johnson was doing? “Oh, he is completely separate. He is sui generis. We can’t do Boris. It was a nadir, all of that stuff.”.....https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/06/29/david-dimbleby-interview-bbc-question-time-general-election/

Shopping Streets

On Saturday morning we we meet friends for coffee near Clapham Junction. St John's Avenue, the main shopping street there, looked vibrant and affluent, with - unlike Putney High Street- few if any empty shops. I wonder how much of that is is down to another difference: St John's Avenue is now buses only with regards to vehicles, whereas Putney High Street is often one polluting traffic jam? I'm sure there's other differences but being pedestrian friendly must be a significant factor?

Wimbledon School Accident

Sure I heard it right, but what a tragedy, the young school girls who died due to a car going into their school, the lady driver was meant to have had a fit. I don't know enough about this, but should the lady have had a License to drive.

EDF

Had a call from EDF yesterday, trying to persuade us to have a knew meter, I said I don't want a smart meter. He went on and on saying we need to make an appointment to change your meter, I said there is nothing the matter with my meter I read it you get the readings and I pay. Oh it's not a smart meter we have a new meter and you need one. I said if it is anything like your smart meters I don't. I've heard so many things going wrong with them, battery, sending customers the wrong readings. I'm happy with the one I have that works. Mine is the old dial meter, no problem. In the end I think he knew he wasn't getting anywhere so gave up.
