Refuse refused

According to the WBC website we can leave up to 5 bags of garden waste for collection on rubbish day. Last week I left out one bag of garden waste and it was not collected. Last night I left out one bag of garden rubbish and it was not collected. What is going on? Anyone with similar experience? To get the stuff moved you have to go online and make a special request. That happened last week and it was taken away. Trying the same again. What a system!

Front page, it appears he has died, used to be near Sainsbury's appears had been homeless for 25 yrs. So sad, I gave him money when I saw him, because he looked so thin.  Full story on the front.

In the hope that consideration of Hall won't again get drowned in the endless, interminable, circular arguments about Gaza, I want to draw attention to her misleading statements about crime in London."Crime has spiralled out of control after he shut police stations and failed to recruit police," Hall claimed at her campaign launch (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-68639277.amp).Wrong: when he took over in 2016/17 the crime rate (the Met + City of London Police) was 89.3 per 1,000 population; in 2022/23 (the latest available figures) it was 100.9 (https://www.statista.com/statistics/380963/london-crime-rate/). so the increase was 13.2% over 7 years; hardly spiralling out of control.And the Conservative campaign has been forced to delete an ugly attack video that made another false claim about crime in London: “London under Labour has become a crime capital of the world.” Further, it showed scenes of panic at a railway station, overlaid with an ominous US-accented (why a US-accented narrator??) narrator saying: “A 54% increase in knife crime since the Labour mayor seized power [seized power? He was ELECTED, you dummies!] has the metropolis teetering on the brink of chaos. And in the chaos, people seek a desperate reprieve.”Not only was the station shown not in London or even in the UK, but it was Penn Station in New York! And the claim that there has been “a 54% increase  in knife crime was also completely false: in 2016/17 the total number of police recorded knife or sharp instrument offences in London was 12,077 and by 2022/23 it was 12,786, an increase of, er, 5.9%.It seems the hopeless Hall is so desperate she can only run using distasteful and dishonest tactics.

Sainsbury's Werter Rd.

It appears the staff are now wearing head phones to speak to another colleague in the shop, so yesterday while waiting at the cig counter to be served, while the young lady was serving somebody, she walked away and kept talking on her speaker to tell the manager upstairs there was a parcel delivery. When the assistant came back to the customer, the customer said why did you just walk away and keep standing there, there was a long queue as well.  It just gets worse. No youngsters looking for part time jobs who is going to employ them with all these cut backs.

Saw on Next Door forum, a man arrested on Boat Race day by the River in Barnes near the Bridge, had a knife. Video clip by Elm Bank Gardens. Why do people think they can just go around stabbing people. I remember when the Mods and Rockers used to have a punch up in Margate or somewhere years ago. But why do people on their own just want to stab other people.

Leasehold & Freehold (Reform) Bill

Yesterday we had the BBC local news on in the background at home.  A woman who lived in an apartment block, aka block of flats, in Canary Wharf said her service charges had gone up to £33,000 per year.  I asked my husband if I had heard that right, £33,000 per year, because I was only half listening.  It was correct. I hope that Michael Gove really does do something about these extortionate bills that are ruining the lives of people trying to put a roof over their heads.  It isn’t just enormous services charges, it is the land rent scam which sees the amount doubled fairly frequently.  I feel so sorry for people caught up in these situations.

Cost of policing pro-Palestine marches in London

I watched a DVD yesterday that described the efforts of the police to catch rapist and burglar Delroy Grant known colloquially as 'The Night Stalker'.What was striking were the efforts the officer leading the hunt for him had to make to set up a temporary squad of about 100 surveillance officers to monitor the suspect.Today I believe the pro-Palestine demonstrators have taken a day off from marching through London ("been there, done that"), hopefully allowing the police to concentrate on the high rates of burglaries, shop lifting, knife attacks and other crimes in the Capital.However I have learnt from my AM Leonie Cooper that costs for policing previous marches from 7/10/23 - 31/12/23 have amounted to £32.5 million, with further costs obviously arising from later marches.Doubtless this will be reflected in the next Mayoral precept in our Council Tax bills.But more to the point on how many more important areas could this money have been spent, rather than on an issue in a far away land, both of which we have no interest in or influence over ?
