@ John HawkesDate/Time: 26/05/26 15:53I am sure nobody would be surprised to learn that I have followed Nigel Farage’s political career for a long time and have been a subscribed member of UKIP, the Brexit Party and since 2024, Reform UK. I have also been heavily invested with his FB account and it’s a place to discuss not just his policies but also his life outside of politics.  Including his personal life.In November 2025 Farage bought a large house in his Clacton constituency and the Left-wing print media went into frenzy-mode.  He was accused of only buying it because he was facing extreme criticism for not living in the constituency that he represents, or just to add it to his considerable property portfolio, or it was some kind of tax dodge à la Rayner.  This last speculation was further fuelled because the property was solely registered to his longtime partner, Laure Ferrari, who he first met in 2007.  However FB gossip was more down-to-earth  and pragmatic.  The speculation was that LF wanted marriage but NF did not want to get married again.  However to prove his commitment to their relationship Farage bought the house for her using his own money.  Perhaps the funds were part of the £5M gift he received from Christopher Harborne, who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️  Killing two birds with one stone?  Finally it is Farage’s own money given as a personal gift so he can spend it however he wants to.  P.S.  @Michal IxerI worry about your OCD fixation with Brexit.  Seriously.

Mr Ixer'Mr Hawkes,  those donations were to a party, not an individual. A £5M donation to an individual is, surely, different? Mr Farage seems unclear whether this was for his security or a "thank you" for Brexit; to me that seems proof it's the wealth that have gained from Brexit, not the majority of people. Why else would one give a £5M thank you?'If this money were given to an individual, where is the shame, corruption  or other malfeasance in that ?Were it to be a personal gift, it's the man's own money and so he can do what he wants with it and give it to whom and for whatever reasons he chooses. If it's a 'thank you' for Brexit, so what ?Nobody else's business. We live in a free country and within legal limits can do what we want with our money.Perhaps he wants to use it before Labour and the Greens introduce a Wealth Tax ?Like me, I am sure you hope the starting point for this is just £1 above the assets each of us comfortable Putneyites have worked hard to accumulate. And surely he also can, within the restrictions of HMRC guidelines regarding doner and recipient, do what he wishes with his money ?If the money in question were given to a Party, I assume there are guidelines regarding this also which the Electoral Commission (not the Guardian Opinion page) will decide were or were not followed.'Perhaps I sense some hypocrisy regarding gifts. Obviously, fraud is a different matter.'Hypocrisy on your part perhaps ?For do you not find it demeaning to watch Starmer touch his forelock to and kiss the hem of the garment of the German Head of the EU Commission that no one voted for as he tries to deny the Brexit vote in an attempt to wriggle back into the EU without us noticing ?Why is he doing this ?'In Q1 2026, UK GDP grew by 0.6% compared with the previous quarter (Q4 2025). Eurozone GDP increased by 0.1%, with Germany growing by 0.3% and France recording no growth. US GDP growth was 0.5%.'https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/sn02784/Obviously people of your persuasion are sh!t scared of the support Reform is alleged to be gathering from the working class. But at least you acknowledge the corruption going on north of the border.

Mr Ainsworth'"for many people, it just looks odd that somebody handed a politician £5million.".But does it look more odd than donations by the Unions to the Labour Party albeit they are beginning to think it's a waste of money.'Labour’s biggest union backer has cut its annual donation to the party by more than £500,000 in a major blow to Sir Keir Starmer’s leadership'.Here are those individuals and Unions who funded Labour's Election campaign - Biggest individual donors:Reginald Collins £350,000.00Maqbool Ahmed £75,180.00Richard Swann £50,000.00 Amin Hemani £50,000.00 Waheed Alli £35,000.00Jason Stockwood £20,000.00Robert Latham £15,000.00Jennifer Clifton £10,000.00Robert Latham £5,000.00Gordon Dalyell £5,000.00Antony Gormley £4,500.00Martin Littler £3,000.00Ian McLaughlin £2,500.00and biggest Union benefactors -Unite £414,610.52Unison £347,562.68GMB £229,448CWU £101,205.93ASLEF £28,404.29USDAW £16,827FBU £11,725.00CTU £11,541.79and even PLCs (many looking to hold leverage over l'il Red Ed !?Labour Together £98,726.32SSE PLC £22,400Scotia Gas Networks Limited £4,400.00PG Paper Company Limited £3,928London Hotel Group Limited £3,750.00Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution Limited £3,200.00Invicta Public Affairs £3,000So let's not think Reform is the only Party willing to accept corporate or quasi-corporate support.Meanwhile -'Burnham is expected to get significant union backing and has already been given a modest £20,000 by some of them. He could get endorsements and support from Unite and Unison, which have called for Starmer’s administration to be more true to Labour values'.I assume there are rules governing Party funding and financial electoral support.Doubtless Farage and Burnham will be playing by the rules. And even Red Ange has been cleared by HMRC so she's got c.40K to spend !
