Mr CairnsI have scanned this article and of course it is blatently anti-Israeli and pro-Palestinian.It would seem that only the Israelis in their defence against attacks from Palestinians have committed genocide, implemented apartheid etc whilst the Palestinians are simply defending themselves. Not sure how the October 2023 genocidal attack by Palestinian terrorists on Israeli women, children and the elderly fits into  this analysis.Perhaps you can enlighten us.Oh and don't use the term genocide so casually in your biased attacks on Israelis. You might recall that 6,000,000 Jews were murdered just 80 or so years ago in what was not an instance of self defence but an attempt to eliminate a whole race of people. However you may be too young to know much about this or don't have the intellect to critically read too much recent history. You might also note that the supposed genocide of Palestinians by Israelis if it is such is not being that successful in terms of their population. And it is not the only such activity currently taking place.'The current genocides are a result of ongoing conflicts and human rights violations. Here are some of the ongoing genocides that are currently being reported:Gaza Strip: The ongoing conflict has resulted in a Genocide Emergency, with over 70,100 reported deaths, including both Palestinians and Israelis. The violence has led to near-total collapse of essential services in the region. Sudan: The war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF has targeted civilians in Darfur, leading to mass killings, widespread rape, and systematic looting. Sri Lanka: The civil war has resulted in a genocide, with a significant number of Tamils killed during the conflict. North Korea: The prison camps have been a site of mass killings, with an estimated 80,000-200,000 prisoners imprisoned and many deaths due to deplorable conditions. China:Since 2014, the government of the People's Republic of China has committed a series of ongoing human rights abuses against Uyghurs and other Turkic Muslim minorities in Xinjiang which has often been characterized as persecution or as genocide. There have been reports of mass arbitrary arrests and detention, torture, mass surveillance, cultural and religious persecution, family separation, forced labor, sexual violence, and violations of reproductive rights.'What is your analysis and views on what is happening in these countries, or are you so antisemitic you can only find it within yourself to criticise Israel ?Please let us know.

Mr Brigo'Should we abandon the whole system?'The problem is that a legal system such as we have takes centuries to establish agreed definitions of crimes and their punishments and laws to enforce them.It carries authority and respect because most people agree with the consensus conclusion. In international law, politics plays a major role in how crimes can be defined and prosecuted. One country's terrorist attack is another's legitimate fight for freedom and there is a whole spectrum of interpretations  of the meaning of such dependent on the current political situation pertaining in any particular country. That is why terms like 'genocide' are difficult to interpret and actions so named by some, so difficult to prosecute. Are Chinese attacks on Uighurs attempts at genocide or legitimate attempts by a sovereign state to protect its borders and civil society ?No international court or international laws can ever be really effective as not every country will accept them.If we despise what a country is doing and this represents a majority view legitimised by a Parliamentary vote, we should 'punish' that country by the denial of trading rights and their citizens rights to abide on our country.Pick them off one at a time and not waste taxpayers money in  participating in international courts.Let's face it we already have the UN and the ICC is just another sinkhole for taxpayers to pour money down into the open gullets of diplomats and 'international jurists' many from lawless dictatorships, wallowing on New York's Lower East Side.

I agree with John. The courts are not the appropriate place to decide political issues. Still less are judges the right people to pronounce on the meaning of words in the English language, which is what the ICJ will have to do  when considering the charge of genocide against Israel. The meaning of a word is deduced from the way it is used by native speakers. The word genocide ever since its introduction in 1944 has been used to mean the deliberate and gratuitous extermination of a national, ethnic or religious group. For example, up to half a million German civilians were killed in the Second World War. Yet the Allies have never been accused of genocide. That is because the aim of their bombing raids, however brutal, was not to wipe out the German people but to force the Nazis to surrender by destroying their industries and weakening morale. By contrast the Holocaust is regarded as a genocide since there was no conceivable reason to put millions of Jews to death, many of them their own citizens or citizens of allied countries, other than to exterminate the race. It is therefore an obvious distortion of the word to accuse Israel of genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza. Firstly, it was Hamas who attacked Israel, not the other way round. Secondly, there was and is no plan to exterminate the Palestinians. If the Israelis had wanted to kill all the Palestinians in Gaza they could have done so in 24 hours. On the contrary they frequently gave warnings of impending attacks so as to minimise civilian casualties (something the Allies never did). Their aim was simply to defeat the Hamas militants who were holding  Israeli hostages and threatening to repeat the massacre of October  7. Thirdly, Hamas have still not surrendered or given up their weapons, means  that the Israelis have the right to shoot militants who are posing a threat.  This does not imply Thai the Israelis should be immune from criticism but the charge of genocide is baseless and, I believe, motivated  by antisemitism, as if to say, ‘you Jews are always going on about the Holocaust , but you are just as bad’.
